Our department competence is to deliver Chief Engineering Services combined with unique scientific knowledge in biology, medicine, physics and material science for space applications to programs and projects during offer, planning and execution phases. Our perimeter emphasizes the development of Space Payload Systems such as scientific payloads for the International Space Station with overall responsibility for end-to-end delivery of design, manufacturing, test and operation.Hereby we build the bridge from science to the product solution by applied systems engineering and we manage the technical interaction between customer, sub-contractor and Airbus.
Our engineers provide responsibility to ensure end-to-end product’s technical coherence, overall compliance and product performance over the whole life cycle and we manage the technical interaction with sub-contractors and Airbus’ internal engineering disciplines in the centre of competences (COC’s).

Your tasks and responsibilities
As a student/intern, you will accompany before mentioned processes and be mentored by a member of the Chief Engineering Team, enabling you to get an insight to human space flight business.
You will be assigned to the cutting-edge projects CIMON.
CIMON is the first free-flying crew assistant on-board the ISS, equipped with artificial intelligence, launched in 2018. Now, we are updating the system to support the exiting upcoming missions in 2025 and beyond.
Start and End date are flexible and can be adjusted to the students semester planning, however a duration of at least 6 month is desired . After the internship there is potential for writing a final thesis, upon agreement with the department and the university.
Desired skills and qualifications
You are enrolled full time student (d/f/m) within the field of software engineering, artificial intelligence, statistics, aviation and aerospace engineering, mechatronic, physics, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering
Team spirit and willingness to co-operate and working together in an international company
People around you define you as an open-minded and dynamic person
You come with a hands-on mentality and try to solve challenges pro-actively
CAD skills (e.g. Solid Works, CATIA, FreeCAD) are an asset
Software skills (e.g. C++, Python) are an asset
You are very well organized and you know how to adapt to different situations
Autonomy and good communication skills are some of your assets
Languages: advanced in English (advanced in German is an asset)
